Advices to help you protect your deck

Dye
For the care of a patio made out of treated white pine, it is preferable to use a water based dye because the oil based dye seals and prevents the pine to breathe which in turn makes it peel.
Moreover, the water based dye is more ecologically friendly. The white pine needs to absorb humidity and let water evaporate with the good weather. To obtain maximum performance, because the water based dye evaporates, no need to sand, scrape the wood, only a good cleaning of the wood then apply the water based dye every 3 to 4 years. A well maintained patio will last a lot longer and will be a lot nicer to look at.
Contrary to white pine, cedar needs an oil based dye. We would then need to scrape and sand the cedar, then apply an oil based dye every 3 to 4 years. |
